Find a Pro is a great tool.

You need to have a "presence" ! A good logo that is easy to see and remember. A name that sticks out. An advertisment in the local phone book with you easy to see and remember name/logo.

I see so many trucks that either have nothing on them or some little name and number on the side door. Your driving a bill board that people see every day. Use It !

Let people see your around and working. " Oh ya, I now that guy, I see his truck ".

Parking in front of the local gin mill is Not the advertising you want. Stickers on your truck that say things like " Mean people suck " don't help.

Don't put too much stuff on your truck becasue it becomes muddled and confusing to read. You want some one to pass you on the highway and know its you With Out having to read it.

Your friend is a real etate agent ? Give him/her and hand full of your cards and maybe a gift certificate for a resturaunt.

A Simple advertisment in the local paper gets your name out there.

Good Luck.

Scott

Iam plumbing contractor who recently started out on my own and i was considering direct mailing to increase my customer base. I also have a friend in the real estate business who can tell me who recently bought a home in my area. Can anyone tell me what kind of info i should include in this, or maybe should i just mail them my business card? All responses appreciated.

    a book by it's cover?

a surprising number of hydronic and steam decisions are made by the woman of the house;so maybe magnetic cards stuck to the fridge would be a good start mailsd out.
there was some disscussion about logos on trucks recently as advertising [maybe the cards could be stuck to the truck too for the taking].
how about a discounted pre heating season checkup price including burner cleaning adjustment, leak check etc.that way you will meet more potential permanent customers?[and vise-versa]
naturally you and your employees should look professional and knowlegable wherever you go to generate the most effective advertising of all--word of mouth.--nbc

Direct mailing can be effective, but you have to do them continously. Most Marketing experts say you should touch some one 12 times a year. Whether it is through the mail, email or phone call. And MOST important mail to the customers you already have, don't give them an excuse to look for some one else.

12 times a year may seem a lot but you do 7-10 to be effective. Holidays, Water Heater Birthdays (I love this one)even telling your own customers about new and exciting things your company is doing. Remember they soon forget how great you are and could do the worst thing open the local directory.

If you can afford it start a website, this is the new directory for most as the internet has grown the need for paper references has shrunk.

Don't forget to ask "How they heard of you" this will help you figure out where you need to spend your marketing budget.
