Temporary aquastat placement?

As the other post suggested the skim tap plug is a good idea, although for those sometimes really big wrenches are needed. You could put a tee into the bottom gauge glass tapping. I think the WR is the smallest size immersion bulb.

I have a Dunkirk Empire steamer with an indirect tank. The indirect zone uses boiler water from a tankless coil plate tapping and returns it to the bottom boiler tapping. There is no aquastat so it often steams before the indirect is satisfied.
Eventually I'm going to repipe the boiler with a heat exchanger for 2 fhw zones but for now I need to put in an aquastat to stop it steaming. There are no available water tappings. Can I use the unused tankless coil? The bottom tapping is below the water line. Would thermal conductive paste be enough contact? Seems like it would be no different from the indirect tank's aquastat connection...
thanks,

Is this
a blank plate?Or an unused tankless coil?Any unused tapping below the water line is fine.

Unused tankless coil, and I'd be going in the bottom of the coil. If I can use this, I won't have to tap the plate, which was thoughtfully oriented against the far wall by the installer. This isn't a stereo! Access in front please! Ahem.

No!
it's called an immersion aquastat for a reason. The well must must be in contact with the fluid.Find another spot

Find the install manual.....
Look at the tappings and pipe size guide for a "Skim Tap". That will be your best bet. If that's against the wall, find the installer and dope slap him till he gets it!
You may have to fill the boiler to a higher point to keep the probe beneath the waterline, but if it's temporary...no problem. Chris0 -
Ok, I used the tapping in the round front plate and brought the water up to cover it. Now I'm trying to sort out the wiring. I'd like the new aquastat to keep the circ running but cut the burner on temp rise.
The indirect aquastat connects to its circulator's relay TT. Terminals N & 4 go to the circulator. Terminals 6 & 5 go to the burner TT. Seems to me the new aquastat should sit in series on either 5 or 6? Does it matter?
thanks...
