Remember This Old Movie?

One thing I find I LOVE about theose old classics is how it was ACTING that made the film, not the special effects. In a remake, they would show the execution in all the gory detail they could.

I was watching an old submarine flick on sunday (can't remember the name) my 11 year old was idly trying to ignore it, it was an old B & W..when they were done dropping depth charges, she said.."GOD I was holding MY breath!!"

They don't make them like that anymore..There are some modern movies I really like to, but the acting pales in comparison..

The best I ever heard was a comic talking about this..he was specifically mentioning Arnold's TOTAL RECALL, and said a well done movie, and you can image the script writer, in a climactic moment of inspiration writing the line, imagining the passion that the lead man would use and saying "Give the people the air!" (I imagine in a Heston like moses let my people go kinda way) and then seen the govenor say it "GIV de peepole de ayre!!"

OUCH!!!

Love that movie, and Frank is right, those rads are GORGEOUS!!

  • With remakes,

and comic book heroes now seemingly in vogue, who could forget the true icons of film.
I can never vision this film ever being re-made, how can anyone top this original?

    They'd never duplicate

those gorgeous radiators. I think that's a Vapor system....

    old films-- true presence

they would certainly not be able to duplicate the Presence of those old actors [and actresses] ;nor of the dramatic effect of black and white film.
they would instead rely on computer-generated visual effects to shock us with Rocky's final electro-pyrotechnics instead of leaving the scene mostly to our own imagination.
i am sure i have seen the lights dimming during the electrocution in another film [the governors pardon arrives just after the light dim!]--nbc
