Flushing a steam boiler

Member Posts: 1
I am looking for some information regarding flushing a Weil-McLain steam boiler, model # EG-40AS. The boiler is about 15 years old and has been flushed twice. I watched a plumber flush it the second time, and it appeared not to be to difficult. I am retired now and would like to do my own maintenance with regards to flushing the boiler. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Pump Flushing
Is part of an ANNUAL maintenance (here at least) I connect the pump to the drain(s) opposite where the water feed is piped in. I fill the boiler, connect the pump and flush. Draining without a pump, while certainly is better than nothing at all, just doesn't cut it. After the boiler is empty I open the water feed valve while the pump remains running and keep flushing. The stuff that comes out at that stage is usually pretty rough. Then I just fill/flush...fill/flush until the water runs clear. After I'm done pumping, I refill the boiler and run it up to steam. Dont forget to run the boiler when you're done. Otherwise the hungry oxygen will commence to eating the cast iron. Good Luck. Twice in 14 years????? Yikes!0
