    My little girl

will turn 8 next Monday. Tonight she decided that she was "big enough" for me to take the training wheels off of her bike. My wife and I have been trying to get her on 2 wheels for a few years. No deal.

Well, things changed tonight. No more training wheels.

I ran along side her a few times, but she didn't really need me there. Well, maybe a little....

    She's up and running now.

Funny thing watching your kids grow up. You love it and hate it at the same time. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.."

Anyway, those who have experienced this before me will remember and those with younger ones get a glimpse at another milestone on the road to "all growed up".

And after you teach them to ride a bike.......hug your kids. (Sound familiar?)

    Learning to fly

    Awesome Mark!!

My youngest ( 17 yr old ) son made his first solo flight last week in a Helicopter. I can't wait to go up with him.
I hope we never have " The agony of defeat" that would be ugly.
Meanwhile, hug your kids- time flies, I remember this one learning to walk, and ride a bike, and drive a trctor, then a car & now this. Time truly flies

Mark, this Bud's for you! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-5EFO8LQrw

Great for you enjoying the Wonder Years. My baby is turning 21 in 10 days! Wow, how the time flies. Jobs and all the techy stuff we chat about here are cool but kids are the greatest invention ever.
    Take care buddy,
    Bob

    congratulations

to you and your son. I have my pilot's license but haven't flown for a few years. Love the feel of being up soaring with the birds. Been in a helicopter a couple of times when I did construction nursing with New England Power Service CO. Great feeling. Keep it up. Ruthe

    private pilot

I have a Private pilot certificate, earned it 11 yrs ago, ut have been inactive lately. My son never showed much interest in the piper, or Diamand Katana I flew, but... When one of our subs landed his Schweitzer on the lawn he was hooked.
The other night two of us sat down to study for biennials, and my son joined us, he added alot to the session. I hope to be back in the air next month- soon as I get my inner ear straightened out. I'm looking forward to it.

    One More

    I know the feeling well.
My 7 year old grand daughter did the same 2 days ago.
24 hours later, I was amazed at how fast a small bike can go.

    Our baby

is 18. He just learned to drive a stick shift. (He resisted. It's too hard.) Ha! Now he's rolling and giving his friends rides up into town. (to do nothing of course.) Thanks for sharing. She's a cutie. WW

    Learning to fly

One last comment... My older son turned 21 this past week, and we had a party. His friends used "his " bayjroom and saw a copy of Dan's "Pumping Away" in the reading rack. He's on his second read. Several of them asked " Why are you reading that"
His answer " Because it's cool"
Pumping Away... endorsed by a 21 yr old.

    Flying/Sport Pilot

Inspiring to read about some flying adventures! Makes me want to get back in the air soon! I've been taking lessons from a CFI in SD who trains new Sport Pilots (the relatively new rating forged by EAA/FAA cooperation in 2004). One of the beauties of the rating is only needing a driver's license (vs. a medical) to fly. VFR only, but there are leagues of new certificated Light Sport Aircraft available nowadays, from "low 'n' slow" ultralight trainers to 120 knot composite 2-seat wonders which burn only 5 GPH. The EAA site has more info. For even more flying freedom, there's still the FAR Part 103 ultralight category. Enjoy the skies!

I was about 8 when I finally took the training wheels off the bike and learned to breeze around the block one marvelous Thanksgiving weekend in 1966...
