Have a situation................................................
Client has recently installed solar (PV) system and water heater is now on the fritz. On Long Island, KW costs are high, so elec water heaters are not all that common, However, with their own power generation would this be the best option for domestic water now? Can those convertors run a 220 load? Mad Dog

This is considered an absolute No ,No in the Re world to take 14% eff. PV panels and dump the heat to water when prper hot water thermal panels are inthe 65-90% eff range. Might better do a small thermal install and then pre-feed a tankless unit >>>> Paul0 -
I had a feeling....
that's why I asked. I am not sure if he has any roof space avail OR if he is wliing to go for the cost...what about an elec tankless like a stiebel eltron? Also, just so I can learn.....is it possible to run 220 loads off of PV? Thanks alot. Mad Dog

Hi Mad Dog: Yes, inverters can be be purchased in all phasing configurations ( single phase for household). 120/240 volt output. Some can be paralelled and or stacked to increase what is required for the application ( more voltage OR more total wattage /output current. Dependent on the household LOADS it takes alot of PV panels to power a house to the point of being NET Zero ., even in a good site with lots of hours of sun. The beauty of any and all solar (thermal as well) is that you can design around these available hours as they vary only about 10% a year at any given site based on the calculated hours for your site/Zone. More to follow if you wish. Paul (Solar is my hobby for the last 20 years)0 -
Thank mADyou Paul.........
