Yes it can and yes they do. My favortie steamer is the Weil McLain SGO boiler and it can be fired with either oil or gas. With a Riello burner, either can fire at relatively high efficiencies. Have done a lot of these and one has been converted 3 times already.

    Gas steam boiler-efficient?

    I know that the heat from an oil fired boiler is hotter so can gas steam boilers be as efficient?
    Is there such a thing that a boiler that can be converted from gas back to oil or are the designs too restrictive for that to work well?

    Another good choice

    is the Smith 8 series. It is available from the factory with Beckett, Carlin and Riello oil burners as well as Carlin's EZ-Gas power gas burner (called the G-8 when so equipped). This means it comes with full factory certification and warranty. Here are a couple of G-8 installation pics we've done.

    BTW Al- last I heard W-M did not offer gas burners for the GO series from the factory. Has this changed?
