if he doesn't want to use the boiler in the shoulder season, how does he heat the house in the shoulder season?
best bet is to insulate the addition and house to the max.

large radiant addition
Question for all???? I'm installing radaint in an addition on a fairly large house. The current oil boiler is 180k BTU's. House is approx 5-6k sf. Boiler is sized right for a design day.
My question is using a cost effective heat source for the radiant. My original proposal (end of last year) was to add an i series mixing valve and have a tempered zone off the boiler.
Now w/ the price off oil, my customer wants other options. He doesn't want to fire the boiler in the shoulder seasons to make hot water for the radiant.
Total radiant load is 28k btus and 4 zones.
There is no gas in the house and it is on LI ( elec. very expensive)
Any body using any new strategies out there.
Would a buffer tank keep that big of a boiler from short cycling?
Any help is appreciated..
Thanks,
Mike0
