Heating system... Furnace or Boiler??

is that builders invariably want to put in whatever is cheapest, since they don't have to live with the results. Scorched-air costs less to install but is much less efficient- just like, for example, incandescent lights- and much less comfortable. Only increasing energy-efficiency standards will change things- hate to involve the government though.....

Heating system...Is one better... Furnace or Boiler??

What is the difference between installing a furnace vrs a bioler. I have noticed that a lot of homes in the south have furnaces and in the Northeast they use boilers with steam or hot water to heat radiators...

Why would a home owner choice forced hot air over steam or steam over Forced hot air? Is one of these more or less efficient over the other in different climates? Assuming they use the same fuel source....

    Thanks...

    furnace vs. boiler

Hot air systems here are notoriously inefficient, at least at the comfort level, if not properly installed. And few or them are. It is usually colder here and a more consistant temp is required for comfort. Like the wind chill factor outdoors, moving air inside makes it feel colder. Baseboard and radiators (hot water and steam alike) hold the heat longer and don't move as much air, making it seem warmer and more consistant. Properly installed with the right controls can make a warm air system very efficient. There are fewer heat transfers taking place, and the heat seams to get to the space quicker. Plus you need more AC down south and a furnace system can deliver cool air as well, needed a fan to do so.
