What type of shots ? i have been to dozens of doctors in the course of near fifty years in the plumbing trade . did he give you a tetanus shot. that is good practice. unless that is changed. no doctor ever mentioned these " shots " sounds like he was simply building up the pot. hip is not exaltly the premier health plan.0 -
tetanus was 1 bob,
BTW-Did you get a bill on your way out?
Dave0 -
no bill
they don't give bills anymore , do they ?? for my last stay at columbia- prespyterian ghi got billed out for over a hundred grand. but the food was excellent !! we are in the wrong business, bro. lol they do try to nail you for those ridiculous co. pays though0 -

immunizations
Talk to your doctor. Have him check your records to see your last tetanus toxoid. For mild exposure hazard, many docs will recommend every 10 yrs, while those who get cut regularly such as in construction, may want to get it every 5yrs. If you get sutures for lacerations, they will ask you for your last T.T. and on deep wounds probably shoot you anyway.
There is a combination vaccine now for both types A and B hepatitis. Either way, it is a series of shots where they draw titres btw to check your levels. Hepatitis A is much more contagious while type B can kill you and carries a 25% chance of subsequent liver cancer.
Learn proper hand washing technique
Don't bite your finger nails.
when using public bathrooms, never grab anything bare handed, esp. the door handle. Wash your hands then, using the paper towel, grab the handle and toss the towel as you exit.
Wear nitrile gloves around biological waste.
If really exposed to sewage, you ought ot consider washing your clothes separately from the household laundry.

Hey Bob...
Did you memorize that shpiel???
It sounds almost exactly what my Doc tells me every time I walk in the door.
Like us...he has a lot of different patients..and can't remember everything, so I get it all the time. Luckily my girlfriend works for him...so I get it less than most.
Keep this stuff up to date.It pays for itself in the long term. JCA0 -
For Bob Harper, a bit off topic
Hi Bob,
I saw your post and it struck me that I never called you back that day when I was at that meeting in Maryland.
I called you and offered to meet you for lunch. After that I got busy and I went brain dead. I forgot to call you back.
Now when I see you I owe you a Lobster for lunch, to make up. :0
I really feel stupid.
My apologies,

LOBSTER ED
Ed,
We don't get much fresh lobster out Colorado way.....so if he doesn't take you up on the offer, I will. Matter of fact, I have never seen a snow crab in this part of the country..........just kidding have a good day.
John
PS We do have some really good Rainbow Trout her in southern Colorado !0 -
OUR HEALTH AND SAFETY
I work in a jail and you can't find a more high risk population anywere. there are times i would like to hit the place with a flame thrower killing all germs in my path
Handwashing and gloves are just the begining. I basicly have to decon anything that needs to be repaired. I think that a can of disinfectant should be in all of our tool boxes. My drill on plumbing jobs is to decon/clean the thing and then work on it because i cut myself at least three to four times a week0
