Bill,
I agree with you regarding the re-bar in theory. In practice, I wonder what the actual effect of the tube running along (rather than across) the re-bar.
In the photos labeled "Oxbow", the tubing is actually attached to 6x6 WW mesh which serves no other purpose than a grid for tubing attachment. The structural re-bar is below the mesh.
The pictures of the tubing attached to the re-bar longwise were taken in my office for illustrative purposes only. -DF

Speed tools
Looking for a tool to attach infloor tubing to rebar. Need to know where to find one. Are there different models/brands that work better? For you fellows who have one, how well do they work? Let me know, it would be a great help.
Thank you!0 -

MAX makes the best cordless tying tools. They have various sizes depending upon the thickness of the rebar you're tying to. These tools will tie the tubing to the rebar in 1-3 seconds. The labor savings makes the tool (very pricey) worthwhile.

Sweet tool...
If you do much tube on mesh, you HAVE to own this tool.
Every time we use it on a job, a crowd of people develops out of no where, and they're typical comment is "Wow..."
Was using it today on a job for one of the largest GC's in the state, and his cement foreman wanted to know where HE could buy one. They tie all their rebar by hand...
Work smarter, NOT HARDER!!

for tube to mesh
Peter Mangone had a great tool under development. I used it on a few large jobs it worked great. It won't reach around rebar, however

I like the idea of a tube tying machine, but have a reservation, at least for rebar. The pictures show tube being tied along the length of the rebar, not across it. I've been taught that is you tie along the length of the bar, you are weakening the bonding of cement to the bar: The concrete can't surround it properly. We therefore strive to stay a couple inches away from the bar.
Any thoughts on this?
