I know many of the components have max. operating temperatures 225F maybe on circs and some of the safety devices and controls? Usually it is listed on the component or the data sheet.

what is the practical maximum high limit setting on a hot water boiler? normally a hi limit is 180 but I'd like to know what the safe maximum is.0 -
by code
And definition it's 240 degrees for a "low temp" boiler, seems strange but in the old days 1970's the boiler radiator trade group used to have classes in "mini tube" systems using hot water over boiling temp. Sizing was 3/8 tubing. This is why the old hi limits go to 240. Seems scary but think of your car radiator and look at a modern car temp gauge.

high temp
Normal high temp here in Maine is 200 but as in the other posts, some systems run higher. The downside....if that water over 212 gets out, it's live steam and people get hurt that way !!!
