Asbestos insulation

My AS 6 section CI wet bottom boiler is sitting in my basement, waiting for a Professional replacement. I have drained it, disconnected all but the steam connections and wacked at it so the sections are beginning to separate. But each of those 6 sections must weigh 100 - 150 # easily. I wouldn't even think about dragging them out of the basement.

a boiler replacement today and the old boiler had asbestos insulation under the sheet metal paels. How do you guys deal with this? WW

We subcontract the asbestos removal

and our asbestos sub will also demo and remove the old boiler if we wish. We often have them do this especially on larger boilers, as Gordo and I aren't getting any younger :-O

I gave the homeowner the names of two abatement contractors, one I've worked with and one that was a referral. I went out and disconnected it and the homeowner actually removed the boiler from the stand-up crawlspace himself along with his dad and his dad's pick up truck. You could see the tracks the old American Standard boiler made as it was drug out.....
