"23 posts today", noticed the ambient temps lately? Seems as though you have a bit of a nut with this forum. Come this time of year not a lot of heating issues to be discussed.
I really didn't expect a big response to this thread being as this is a relatively new product, first to be installed in this state as a matter of fact.
Curious, what is all the "fluff you speak of?
Of course manuf. don't post, it's a matter of liabity. I would imagine they are paying close attention. The world of hydronics has changed dramatically in a short time, lots of issues with new equip. they are all trying to adapt to the American market. Times are a changing and I'm not sure the majority of manuf. have their ducks in a row. This is not Europe, heating requirements are far different and imo they are a bit shell shocked.
"I used to count on this site for good tech info, and for several years I got it here, But lately there is a lot of fluff here." You gotta be kidding where else can you go, the local supply house, reps, manuf. half the time you can't get them on the phone and the other half it takes 2 days to get a response.
Not sure what you're expectations are but sure seems like you got a chip on your shoulder!

Bobcat
Silence speaks volumes. However they were voted "Manufacturer of the Year?" at NOASHM. I don't know much about the brand but it doesn't look that they've intro'd a new oil product in about a decade (except for the re-badged DeDietric boiler).
All humor aside, I've never spoken with anyone who had experience with the Bobcat. However you only have access to a small percentage of the industry here, so maybe the local rep can give you some references.

"you only have access to a small percentage of the industry here"
Don`t get out much do ya?

Step back from the punchbowl boilermaster! Do you really believe that, or is it just the glycol talkin'?0 -
23 new posts on this site today - excluding my own. How many contreactors are in our industry? 5,000, 10,000? 20 posts a day doesn't constitite much of a cross-section.
Anyone wanna discuss solar breadmachines?0 -
No \"punchbowl\" antics here,
let me ask you,,,do you really think the Wall has "small access" to heating pros or manufacturers?
Give me a break!

Most of us
work for a living, and exchange ideas when we can.
Usually I buy my bread,,, but if you have some solar ideas, I`m sure we`re all ears!

You may want to look up Bob Gagnon for sonme advice here. I saw him on some home building show a few nights ago, and he was working a a now home in NH. The camera kept zooming in on the Sant-Fin he had put in the house, so based on that I am guessing he uses the product. He sometimes posts on this site. You may be able to connect with him here.

I
wouldn't read anything into the lack of a response.I have no experience with the Bobcat either so am unable to form an opinion.I do however have an opinion of Slant/Fin.Nice people to do business with and good support.
They deserve to be NAOHSM's Manufacturer of the Year and anyone who was at the awards dinner would say the same.
Mel Dubin shared the story of the beginning of Slant/Fin on LI 60 years ago. They must be doing something right to be where they are today.

the numbers justify the statement
No offense Dave, but yes I do believe that is true. When was the last time you heard from a manufacturer on this site be it controls, sundries, or equipment? I won't argue that at one time many were present, but now none of them have much of a presence here.
Every once in a while a wholesaler or rep will pipe up acting as the manufacturer, but they can't speak for the manufacturer.
I used to count on this site for good tech info, and for several years I got it here. But lately there is a lot of fluff here.
So yes, I truly believe there is very little of substance happening here. Period.
Perhaps I should adjust my expectations.0 -
Couldn`t agree
more with Robert,, not a super S/F guy but their products are OK, and they do stand behind them!

Seems like your looking for an argument, I apologize to you if I got too personal. Yes the Wall is "different", but it`s here for all of us,,, if you had a bad experience over something,, please don`t blame our "open communication method" for your misfortune.

Well
Big Hammer you get the bluntness award this week, while I only have time to visit periodically this still is the best forum for wet heating that I have found. The fluff you speak of needs some defining and I am sure Dan would welcome any suggestions that would make the site better.
This site does have an out east feel yet the contributors are most often well informed and well intentioned. As far as getting technical I find this site useful for getting directives or information as to where to find that technical knowledge. I respect the forum and also respect your opinion. You seem a little rough on the edges yet I believe what you say is constructive criticism not condemnation.
Have a great day!0 -
Considering...
There are ~200 readers for every poster...
Name one site that even comes close to this one.
Iv'e been called many things, but "fluff"is not among them.0 -
Bobcat Boiler
Wow, did this subject jump off topic. First off, I want to thank you for considering the Bobcat. If you have any questions on it, please feel free to call me or anyone else here at Slant/Fin. Second, the Eutectic Boiler is indeed the result of a collaboration between Slant/Fin and DeDietrich. Many changes were made to the boiler to make it a boiler that better suits the domestic market place. Lastly, I can assure you that many of my peers in the manufacturing community monitor Dans site. Dan has built this site based on communication and most importantly education.
As always thanks and hello to all,
Best Regards,
Bob Flanagan
