Machine. It costs more. But when you run into trouble and run out of C02 it gets a little scary. It can maintain a freeze indefinitely and fits many different pipe sizes.

quite a few HW systems that have no valves whatsoever, so changing even the circ or PRV can be a PITA when the season is upon us.
I was thinking of getting myself one of these.
    Any opinions?

    Yes and no

    "With a Cold-Shot, you don’t have
    to drain water lines, sprinkler
    systems, or hot water systems
    before cutting pipe or tubing.
    It keeps a fully pressurized
system operating while you make repairs."

We have and use a system like this at our shop Dave. We love it. As far as the quote above, you don't have to drain the pipe but water flow does have to be stopped COMPLETELY. The slightest bit of flow and you won't completely freeze the pipe, no matter how long you try. When flow is completely stopped, depending on pipe size, it will freeze solid and give a firm shutoff. We've used ours on larger systems that can take hours to drain and be nightmares to refill. It can save lots of time and headaches.
