Tek mar 356

The 356 is a nice little control as well as the 361. A few pennies more will get you the 362 which has an optional indoor sensor that can provide feed back that fine tunes the target water temp. On the affordability front, I would couple that with a solid programmable stat and keep tweaking the curve.
Is this a constant flow system?

A customer of mine
has an existing system run by a Tek mar 356 variable speed circulator. The system runs fine, however.... the heat source is an oil fired cast iron beatie and the price of heating is getting high enough for them to ask for options. My first thought was to change to a tek mar 361 control since it has an unoccupied mode I could hook a time to to set back the water temps at night but that's a little pricey. Is there a less expensive way to save them money. BTW I am working on a price for a solar assist to their dilema, but that's not cheaper:) WW

Paul,
Thanks for the quick reply. The 361 has the indoor sensor too however this is a multi zone system using multiple room tstats operating zone valves, so an indoor sensor is not a good option. I was thinking the 361 so I could shift the outdoor reset curve down at night using the unocupied contacts with a timer. Also the 362 is more expensive cuz it can do vsi and floating both. Wow!

You're right!
Missed the 361 indoor sensor. You are 100% correct.
I think you have a pretty good strategy to run with.

Indirect?
Wayne, are they running an indirect off of this system, if so then I would consider a Tekmar 363. It can do everything a 361 can but it offers domestic priority. On another note though, is there really any energy savings with a night time set back? Aren't you going to use the energy saved overnight to get the slab back up to temp throughout the day? I've always heard that set backs with slow operating systems use more not less energy. However, I don't have any documentation to back that up. I would think that in order to really save some money on heating bills, they should reinsulate the house / change windows to triple pane low e, etc. Improve the envelope, reduce your heating bills. Just my $0.020
