Knowlegable consumers
I believe a knowlegable consumer is an asset. Having a potential customer with a reasonably good idea of what they want and a realistic expectation of the final result reduces the time I may have to spend to explain the differences in products available.
As far as I am concerned the basic installation of any retrofit boiler for a chosen application will be close to the same with subtle differences based on manufacturer's installation instructions. IT IS MOST IMPORTANT the installation instructions are followed and not used as knee pads!
Once you arrive at an appliance of choice, based on good information, the final decision should be based on the consumer's developed level of confidence in their chosen contractor. Do your research on the contractor(s). Ask for references and at least pictures of installations.
As stated elsewhere in this thread installation costs may vary - sometimes widely - therefore your budget must be considered. This may limit your choices of both contractors and equipment.
I still believe many of us still make big decisions on "gut feelings" however a detailed quotation and contract are required to ensure "everyone is on the same page".
Just my humble opinion0 -
Hopefully no more contractorss needed
I'm like the last guy. I actually enjoy an informed customer asking questions. Lets me show off my knowledge. There is a really fine line though when a customer starts tell you how to do the job. The best customer asks and then listens. Like already mentioned every mechanic has a different idea and many will, (hopeflly most) will be right. The customer may just need to let the man do his job, but by all means keep an eye open. They can learn about there system, help out with simple problems, (who hasn't forgotem and left a switch off...). The informed consumer would be glad to help out and turn it on. So... it really is a fine line. May be you ate not persistent. During the heat season I can get 40 calls a day. Simple calls sometime get lost in the cracks. I have it on my voice mail to keep calling. Good luck0 -
