Interesting Spot

of how much fun it must have been to install that baseboard system. The best you can do down there is crawl on your hands and knees. My body aches just thinking about it. ;)

  • The crawl space...

As mentioned in my other thread. The question is, if I ever have to, what can I replace this with?

It's ~1942 American Standard. Still has a B valve but does have T'couple main gas valve safety. Naturally I recommended replacement. He's thinking about it. The pix came up out of order, sorry.

He says the whole neighborhood was done like this. These were cheap WWII era houses built by Pratt and Whitney to house their wartime employees. The P&W side of East Hartford, CT is chock full of them. He also said everybody he knows still has theirs just like this.
  • Mod Con...

Run the plastic flue inside the existing vent, and voila, you've got heat and a 30% reduction in fuel bills. Might have to pump the condensate, but no biggy.

  • Wanted to add...

The pump was wired direct. It has run 24/365 since 1942 as far as I can tell.

Sometimes I have trouble with the obvious. ;)

    Perfecta

That looks like a Taco Perfecta pump improperly installed. I would guess that boiler and pump are from the 60's. bob

There was an error rendering this rich post.

  • Hmph...

That's weird, he gave me the impression it was original to the house because he says all his neighbors have the same thing. I wonder what they had under there before this. I'll have to get to the tag and look for a s/n next time I wander my way down there. Possibly Pratt still owned them in the 60s and rehabbed the heating systems in all of them with the same contractor. Or maybe they did it because they wanted to sell them off. Thanks for the input, I've never seen one of these before.

    Another boiler

I cut my teeth on. Last one I saw was in the early '70s, i believe. I want the A/S label from it, will pay shipping if you want....it's for my collection.
  • That'll be a tall order...

till I talk him into a new one, but I'll keep it in mind.

    Oh My

I almost can't bbelieve what I'm seeing here. That is an old Taco Perfecta pump, probably early to mid '60's, and hanging upside down(a real no-no.) And it still is operating?
If it is replaced, I'd love to get it back. Trade ya for a new one!!!

  • Really?

Just so we know, I didn't hang it there!

And if you think I'm pulling it out to turn it over!?! LOL...

I have no desire whatsoever to disturb that system in any way shape or form unless it's an R&R.

I just gave him a rough quote. He's an old friend and calls me "Mr Haney" because I drive a van and sell stuff. His reply was, "Thanks for the info." Just another example of a guy with $ coming out of all his orifices because he makes a lot and he's too cheap to spend any of it. Other than that he's ok. ;)
