Or whatever?

This seems like a worthy cause and I do not see anything wrong with a young lady giving her time and talents at her age! Who put the bee in your shorts?

    Hello please read this letter

Hello to all, This letter is from my 18 yr old little girl whom i am VERY proud of!!

If there is any way you can help her out i would be very greatful! she gave up a great summer job to go do this, She is very willing and capable to get the job done, she has been down there now for two weeks and is doing fine!

Thank you to Dan for letting me post this here !!!!

    David

    Dear Friends and Family,

Hello! I’m writing to share with you an exciting opportunity that I am involved in this summer. I will be spending the summer in New Orleans, Louisiana!

I recently came back from a week long trip to New Orleans where I worked construction and helped those who were in need. I have felt lead to return back and spend a longer period of time there- my whole summer actually. I will be working out of the same church as before, Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Covington, Louisiana. This church is joined with Touch Global, which is a part of EFCA/ Compassion Ministries. They work on rebuilding the lives of people affected by Hurricane Katrina. We will be working in the most devastated areas of New Orleans and the areas around; mucking out houses and preparing homes to be rebuilt. Even though it has been almost three years since Hurricane Katrina, many lives and homes are still in shambles. Those affected by this disaster have little hope that things will get better. Our goal is to show them God’s hope and love through our actions.

I am responsible for raising money and gaining prayer support for myself. The financial cost of me spending the summer is around $3,000. This amount covers living expenses such as housing, bills, and whatever else is needed over the three month time period, materials, insurance, etc. I am also looking for those who will support me through prayer. Prayer is something I know is very important. I’m sure I will be faced with obstacles daily, whether physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually, and prayer from loved ones at home would be greatly appreciated. I also ask that you pray for the people that I will be encountering over the next three months and for the hearts of those in New Orleans, to be softened to God’s love and teaching. Prayer for safety would be great as well!!

I’m really quite excited to be spending the summer doing this. The week that I spent down there in May was absolutely incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed that I was able to make a small contribution to help fix such a large disaster. Something I get great joy out of is serving those in need. This summer will be exactly that. Would you please consider supporting me? If you would like to support me financially, please make all checks to EFCA on the for line on the check please put Alysha Sutton #3971. This is my personal funds account that the church has provided. Mail your checks to EFCA 19380 N 10th St. Covington, La 70433, which is where I will be staying for the summer. If you any questions, feel free to call me (413)454-4206. My e-mail address is midnightcavalier@comcast.net . Feel free to e-mail me and I will be more than happy to respond. Thanks!

    Sincerely,

    Alysha Sutton

This is a very good site for heating issues. I am sad to see it being used for religious proselytizing, holy-rolling and so forth.

If evangelical fundraising is allowed under the guise of a young daughter, why not posts campaigning for John McCain, or against abortion, or for Intelligent Design? All one has to do is to add a charming detail, like "My cute ten-year-old son wants to bomb Iran for his birthday" or "My leggy 15-year-old daughter wants all Iraqis to become Catholics. Send money."

you are not interested, just ignore it.It's Dan's site and if it doesn't bother him, why should it bother you?

    The older I get,

the more I realize that what is needed most in this world is gentleness. Your comment makes me very sad.

    Oh, come now

While there is a largely religious overtone to the letter, the ultimate goal of Alysha's efforts is to help people. If you do not want to help her then don't. I do not feel that insulting the poster, his daughter, or Dan for permitting the OP to spread the word of his daughter's goals was neither appropriate nor fair of you.

I am not a religious person by any means, but I hardly think religion matters in this situation. SOMEBODY has stepped up and offered to help somebody else in some way. Whether it's hurricane victims, starving children in Uganda, drug addicts in south Dallas, or abandoned pets on a chopping block it is more than obvious that there are millions of people who need a charitable hand and, even more importantly, a hardworking hand to set things right and offer a little aid.

I'm 22, sir, and I have no problem looking past some heavily sacchrine religious overtures to see the true message of aid and compassion underneath. What's YOUR problem?

    Back on topic

I'll be contacting Alysha via e-mail to find out what all of my options are for helping. It's nice to see somebody from my generation who isn't waiting for everybody else to fix what's broken.

using it as platform to voice YOUR political leanings. If you cant see a reason to help someone trying to make a difference than dont, simple as that.

Oh I can definately see the "CHANGE" thats coming!!

I hope that someday when you're down, there's someone available to give you a hand back onto your feet.

I've been priveledged to work with Habitat in the past - at a time when I was feeling as low as I'd ever felt - and helping others lifted me out of that hole from hell. During our marathon, I met the 'neighbors' who espoused their abject hatred for the new neighbors they'd not yet met. If we so much as stepped on their lawn, they suggested we might just meet with a fate worse than death itself. I recall being shocked by their statements too. I suspect they came to embrace their new neighbors who have proven to be good neighbors and still live there - some 25-years later.

My boys, both of them, went on church-sponsored work-camp retreats each year for several summers. Perpetually-poverty-stricken folks who were in need got inexperienced, but able-bodied and willing, young enthusiastic workers who were led by more experienced youth or adults to fix up their homes and churches. My boys brought with them lots of construction experience, which helped them to become leaders in later years of those projects. Not everyone helped was worthy of the help, IMHO, but that too was a lesson.

The 'kid' who drank himself into a stupor each day in his mother's home while our kids slaved away in the hot southern sun. Wouldn't so much as lift a finger to help. He missed the lessons he was teaching that the youth took with them.

The single mother of three whose boyfriend refused to let them 'accept' a habitat house - in spite of her and her kids toiling around the clock to get-er-done - and enslaved them to poverty in a dirty run-down trailer. His attitude baffled me too.

My hat is off to this young lady for her courage and her convictions. She's embarking on a journey of hope, faith and one that holds the promise of memories to last a lifetime. Religious or not, her's is a selfless giving that will serve her in good stead the remainder of her days and inspires others.

She doesn't need my prayers, you do. I hope there's a salve to warm your heart one day.

    alternator?!

Changing out an alternator solo is impressive. I find it hard to get it levered w/enough tension on the belts while tighting the bolts down.

I had to "guide" an ex-boyfriend through the process (basically, I did the work, he stood beside me complaining about the heat) when his tiny little POS Celica started to fall apart. It was definitely a pain in the rear to say the least.

    good fences make good neighbors

this thread reminds me that categorising the postings here may be the best solution to these cross words. that way those who do not wish to read about anything OTHER than their chosen field of interest [in my case 1-pipe STEAM ] can quickly go to that area with any ruffling of their feathers.
    the categories become the fences.
if it is any consolation this thread is still more civil than the one about a certain make of boiler with a 10-year waranty!!--nbc

    RE: Bob Sweet

    Bob,
You've got a real problem. You get all upset when a guy tries to plug his daughter's project. He's a proud dad, and he's doing whatever he can to support his kid. It's a noble effort.
Your reaction has now made Dan sad. Can't you find a better way to exprees your disgust? I'm no shrink but here's what I think you meant to say; "So little interesting material is posted in this site that it hurts me when I come across an off-topic post. My hopes of reading something relevant were crushed when I came across this plug." It is widely know that much propaganda is posted here, be it pro-cause or anti-cause it's widley accepted and often encouraged. There is little else to talk about on here, so pony up or move on, Dan is sad, and he has bills to pay. Rememeber, you clicked the link, bro.
