Whatever became of your backyard project
where you were drilling a hole to store heat. Did it ever come to fruition? I was talking to a friend, Mark Utz who is the mid MD expert on ground source Heat Pumps, say he was wondering about applying solar to assist a ground source HP. It made me think of your experiment. WW

It works fantastic....
as an excess solar collector heat rejector.
I'm thinking I got too close to the aquafir.
I think it would probably work a lot more efficiently in a horizontal loop application. And my research said it does and can work. Go to drakelanding.com to see a large community sized system. Last I heard, they had their well field up to 180 degrees F.
It wouldn't be that hard to interface a solar system with a ground loop heat exchanger. Its just a question of location in relationship to the moving ground water as to wether you would see a benefical rise in temperature.
Thanks for asking!
