I am concerned that it is the orginal 58 yrs old...is that possible? (with steel or copper which has been known for leaks and will cost a lot of $ to fix. But the current owner has no idea about it at all, This house has no basement. Any ideas of how I can find out the material and age and the cost of fixing a leak or replacing it (with no basement to have pipes) would be GREAT! remember I dont own the house yet.

    simple maybe..............

older house in a development? with like houses? Next check the manifold piping coming out of slab ( closet by bathroom next to water meter), if copper pipe I would bet that whole system is copper and as old as house. Here in MA ,there are a few of these type developments at the age you are talking, some are working fine, while the next door house has been replaced with baseboard. You can't really know for sure how long before problems will happen. John@Reliable

    Location

Where is the house located? Very often local governments have the original plans on file. You can usually find the names of the original and subsequent owners and you can research that way. Sometimes the heating system will have service tags and you can research that way. Sometimes it helps to ask older neighbors.
