boiler gas valve clicking after regulator change out

    Help!!!!!!

Our little Dunkirk XEB2 boiler has been purring along for almost 20 years now. Saturday afternoon a pine tree snapped during a thunder storm and fell on our house. In removing the pine tree a portion of log fell on the gas regulator assembly and broke off a little vent from it. The gas man came and replaced the vent but also found that the regulator was leaking too. He replaced it and adjusted the gas pressure after I cranked up the boiler. Later that evening I noticed a clicking/clacking noise coming from the crawl space where the boiler lives. This morning I went to investigate and found the noise coming from the gas valve.

This afternoon we are without heat.

Will a pressure missadjustment cause this symptom? It seem like too much of a coincidence for the two events to not be related.

    Any ideas out there?

    Thanks for any informed replies.

  • It is usually not

necessary to adjust the gas pressure regulator as they are set up in the regulator repair facility at the gas company to a set outlet pressure.

Excessive pressure can damage the gas valve, I would have them come back something is definitely wrong.

If this is LP gas are we talking about the second stage regulator or the one on the tank? In any case I would have them come back.

It is the natural gas regulator. I saw the tech's manometer hooked up and he had me start the boiler up to see the in use pressure.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
