is available today in the under 3-ton market with Daiken and Mitsubishi, modulating down to about 1/3 capacity. The Daiken larger systems and the Mitsubishi "City Multi" also employ inverter technology quite nicely.

I am surprised that more do not currently employ inverter technology.

I ran into an old classmate

from junior and senior high school at the Diner the other morning. He's in sales for Carrier. He sez that next year at this time, (which probably means longer) Carrier will come out with a new residential split system air side Heat Pump that runs on an inverter. (Does that mean it turns it upside down?) The SEER will be 24. The HPSF will be 14. Wow! I called my Trane salesman since I sell Trane to see what Trane is coming out with that compares. He offered me a pocket calculator. Hmmmmm. I hope they are busy back at R & D or I might jump ship back to the Carrier folks. WW
