    Two Pipe Steam

Thanks in advance for any comments. I really enjoy Dan's writing and this site.
I live in a 7 story loft building in Manhattan that was built around 1900. The heating for the building is from a two pipe steam system. The building had a new boiler put in last year and by all accounts it was done quite well, but we are still experiencing problems as we had before with the heat. The main complaints from other owners are the usual:
    too much heat.
    not enough heat.
    all kinds of water hammer,
and drastic shifts making it impossible for some to regulate the temp.

I volunteered to be the point person for my condo board on this and am trying to do research before we have someone come to assess the entire system top to bottom.
I want to have them check all the lines in the basement to make sure they are pitched properly and look at every radiator in each unit to make sure there are traps on them, and, if so, that they are working. I also want to make sure that there are no air vents on the radiators.
I am looking for any suggestions for any specialists in the nyc area who might be good for the assessment, and any other ideas to improve the situation that I might not be aware of.

    Many thanks,

    Josh
