but it taint easy ...

You will need to remove the middle section and save the two end sections that have the leggs. You will need new push nipples to re-connect the two end sections. Some will say you can save the old and re-use them but I don't take that chance. Mainly because its on my nickel if we come back. You'll need the baseboard tool to help reconnect them. Some will say you can use a two by four and some hammers to wack them together, again, not my cup of tea.

As I said taint easy, but can be done.

    Cast Iron Baseboard---shorten?

    Hello all!

I've got some experience installing cast iron radiators, but I've got one here that I'm unsure about. It's the cast iron baseboard radiator pictured in the attached (and here: http://creativeradiance.com/images/basrad.jpg ) This thing has what look like 2 seams, one 4' from one end, the other 3.5' from the other end...looks like it might be 3 sections. Can these typically be shortened like the full-size cast iron rads? If so, how difficult is it to a: get the sections apart, and b: get the thing back together without leaks.

Any help/information/links would be appreciated, Thanks!

    Push Nipples

Are they threaded ends and push nipple connections ? Then you can remove the inner section. And if your lucky one nipple would stay in the middle section. Me I am never lucky.

A- Its easy to separate sections with wedges and cold cast once the pinch rods are removed.

B- Do you have the tool to squeeze the sections together ?The worry is reconnecting the old sections and nipples back together back together with out a leak. I would recommend buying a whole new section. But if you want too try. I would brush some Permitex on the nipple and cast seat
    Anything better?

There was an error rendering this rich post.
