as far the the use of "gain" there isn't any.

but the black surface should be about the same as the solar power delivery in you region, watts/sq meter.

    asphalt heat gain

anyone have any calculations as to how many btu's can be gained per square foot of asphalt driveway with 3/4" pex 9" on center. curious to know if anyone has done this or is there anywhere to find a chart to show btu's per square with full sun at what outdoor temp, wind speed etc. Any info at all would be helpful

  • we've seen it, it's very significant in some cases. no calcs but I imagine solar design manuals would be a good place to start.

    Do a search.....

for "Solar Driveway" on this site.

I believe Mad Dog has done this.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

  • what do you mean there isn't any?

we were pulling 115 on a cloudy day from a driveway in MA.

    misunderstand

    gain should imply amplification.

if the sun delivers 100watts/sq meter in your area, the asphalt will produce less than 100 watts, if it picked up 110watt/sq meter then you would have gain.

maybe what the poster is really asking for is emissivity?

did a study at Mario Andrete's house and figured everything at 127 BTU/sq ft. Angle was slightly off from Logitude for max gain.
