God speed, \"Old Joe.\" (Dan H.)

i see that he wrote a book on steam heat--do you have it in your archives?
that's always a good sign when an expert can write [or even describe ] what he intends to do to the nonexpert.
when i studied automobile engineering years ago ,we had to describe the working of such things as a differential on the exam.it really gives you the whole brain workout.--nbc

    I met \"Old Joe\" Szakacs

at a seminar a couple of years ago. Gerry Gill and Steve Pajek brought him and I enjoyed his company for a few hours. Such stories he had to tell!

"Old Joe" inspired Gerry and Steve and these are the guys who put together Balancing Steam. He's now joined the Dead Men and I will think of him fondly until I am also one of the Dead Men.

You can read about his 84 years of life HERE

We should all do as well.
    Retired and loving it.

    Funny thing,

he never mentioned the book when I met him. He was a humble man. Perhaps when Gerry Gill stops by he'll know. Thanks.

    The book is described

as one on a steam system with a minimum of moving parts. I wonder if Joe Szakacs and Frederic Tudor were kindred spirits?

    Gotta find that book!

Google was no help, unless the title and/or author is incorrect.

    ol Joe will be missed

he mean't alot to me and i was going to say something on the wall about him but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm glad you did it for me Dan. How'd you find out? I was at his house saturday morning b.s.ing with him and he died saturday night. Still can't think about it much without choking up. The wake is tomorrow and service on saturday. So much knowledge just went away. His book is a stack of pages he's written and typed . His daughter asked me to help her put it all together for publishing. of course i said i'd help. I'd like to read it myself. ..joe would always help out someone who asked a question..i called him once and said i had a steam question about a particular job..he said ''i'll be there in ten minutes''..i wasn't even working that day, nor was i at the site..so i said ''Joe, i'm not in the heights i'm in bedford''..he said, ''okay i'll see you there in an hour''.. so i did the only thing i could do and went to the job..hehe..that was old Joe..
