allowed by code?
I'd check local code first.
I'm not allow to put a drop on the ground where I'm at.
i wouldn't be surprised if the inspector says no way.

I've done a number of systems, though not any in the last couple of years. Try this site: http://www.rewater.com/0 -
Don't put it in the ground
Use it to flush your toilets, and save about half of your water bill. In Massachusetts you will need a mechanical engineers stamp on the drawings, if I understand it right. Contact Brac Grey Water systems, they have been doing it for a while and have gained approvals in many places. You simply add a couple of chlorine tablets every couple of months or so and the water doesn't smell at all. It seems like a great way to save a LOT of water.

Why doesn't he collect rain water, filter it, and use that for washing clothes, dishes, cars...
Where I am, grey water can not be used for watering, etc. Seems like a system could be put together for changing over to municipal water when the tank gets low. Just a thought... maybe some code issues with this too.0 -
Hey Dobber
On the www.greenneighbourhoodhomes.ca site they list a Toronto tel#. Maybe they could give you some direction on this.0 -
Some people say
That rain water isn't that clean. They say you have bird droppings and toxins that leech out of the roofing materials. More important is the ratio of shower water to toilet flushing. The amount of water per person to shower is about equal to the amount of water per person to flush. With rain water you might get lots of rain in one day, then you won't have any for a couple of weeks. Perhaps a combined system, rain water and shower water, with a big tank that clorinates only the grey water used in the house and the rest is used for irrigation. I think these systems still aren't approve in a lot of places because people are slow to change and everyone is scared of lawyers. But as they are approved in more and more places, people will accept it. Brac Grey Water systems are located in Canada and that might be them in Toronto. I talked to them on the phone and they gave me advice on my custom grey water system and they seem like a top notch company.
