I had no Idea about the pro fit parts.I have a building with two Laars boilers with B+G pumps on the headers. Two boilers eight years Six pumps. The first few times I replaced the berring assemballey only but the whole pump was very little more. I told the customer that Bell and Gossetts sucks but we cant change it it is part of the boiler. We already changed the primary pumps to Grundfoss after changing them four times in five years. Now three years with grundfoss and no problems. That makes my day.

    Bell and Gosset Quality control

Yesterday I went to replace a 2" B&G bearing assembly, when I opened the box the gasket was missing, a week ago I installed a Bell & Gosset spring coupler #118705 (made in China) only to find the casting was so thick and the set screw tapping positioned wrong that it scrapped inside the bearing assembly and made noise, I never seem to have these problems with Taco or Armstrong products, is it just
a run of bad luck or has Bell and Gosset quality control hit a new low?

In my opinion they have been going down hill. I'm a wholesaler in Chicago not far from the B & G factory and have been to most of their classes and I've noticed a downward spiral in quality and customer service.
Although I stock B & G, Taco, and Grundfos and rather sell just Taco and Grundfos. We are forced to sell B & G due to the name recognition here in the midwest and can't pass on all the so many B & G parts orders. As far as new pumps go we try to steer our customers towards quality like Taco and Grundfos.
Taco Profit parts seem to be a good substitute and has a better warranty on replacement parts then B & G has.

The bearing assys are big time crapola.. Did 4 bearing assys replacment at one building, age from 2 to 5 years old... the oldest one was 15 years and still good! Thanks to the building being torn down this coming summer and I don't have to go back for warrenty no charge calls..

    contractor in CT & NY

We have been saying the B&G customer service has been in the toilet for several years.

Can't complain to much about quality because we haven't bought much from them in the last few years.

The feeling is mutual. They don't care about us as contractors and I couldn't care a less about them as a manufacturer.

    Pro-fit

You could always use Pro-fit parts from Taco in some applications.

We used to install B&G NRF-22 circulators for most residential applications. After an unacceptable first year failure rate we switched to Taco. Of the Taco's we have installed, not a single one has failed since we switched 3 years ago

    B & G sliding downhill?

it's ironic that B & G are featured on dan's latest newsletter.i wonder how they would respond to these reports of declining quality and reliability.

for that matter if you were the B & G ceo,how would you respond?--nbc

    Dual Unit Valve Recall

B & G had a recall of the dual unit valve because the relief valve leaked which they said "Hazard: Burn injury from a hot water leak." It seems like more of the made in China syndrome. There is an easy cure to this problem; TACO - made right.

his reps have been responding for years. Promise to see what's going on & get back to you. Then - - nothing. Nothing that is - but raise prices several times a year.

Stopped using their wet rotor pieces. Impellers don't hold up. Next will be permanently lubricated. Noisy bearings.

Doesn't bother them. They make more $$ on replacement 3-piece parts than on new pumps. Great business model.
