    Wood Steam Boiler

I have a customer who wants to replace their old Wood/oil steam boiler. Does anyone still make one? Or even a wood only steam boiler. 85,000BTU

that is dual fuel but its not steam. Hopefully wrench puller will find something. These people are very determined to retain their original heating system.

    wood boiler

what about finding an old coal boiler and changing the grates for wood and using that. you can sometimes find them on ebay for small change.
maybe with a false waterline you could have both boilers working as a tag-team together?nbc

    Custom Fab

There's a guy in Dundee, NY named Gary Switzer who makes custom pressurized wood gasification (chip and chunk wood) boilers. I'm not sure if he also makes steamers, but I wouldn't be surprised. Sorry, I don't have a number, but he can probably be reached through directory assistance.

Is dual fuel allowed in your state?

They are not allowed in Mass. Not even allowed in the same flue. I would check that before special ordering a unit. Do they realize how much wood a steam unit is going to burn through? There was a reason it was a full time job back in the day for firemen, the ones making fires not stopping them.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

in VT Dual fuel is allowed only if it is a dual fuel boiler not separate appliances. I think he is going to be stuck with an oil only or change out the steam system but he really likes his wood steam boiler that he has now but its developed quite a few small leaks and 1 big one over the 35 years it was installed.
