Ever since I read Dan's Lost Art of Steam Heating like many others I have been trying to find more books on steam heating. Two in particular that I am currently searching for are Steam and Hot Water Heating by Ara Marcus Daniels (1928)and The Webster Vacuum System of Steam Heating by Warren Webster and Co. (1916). Sorry to be forward, but I thought I might ask to see if there's anyone out there that has either of these books who might consider parting with them as I would be interested. Thank you all for your time, -Adam

The gentleman who won that Webster book
is my partner, Gordon. It is on its way to All Steamed Up's Historical Documents Division.

Thank you all for your responses. Alan, that's a great website!! I found a few other odball texts that I've been looking for for quite some time. I know about the ebay sale, I was the underbidder (only have so much DI!), and I was hoping I could find another copy somewhere. I had the oportunity a few months ago to see a Webster system in Hartford that should be in a museum! It was the most complete and intact original instalation I've seen (right down to the modulation control valves!). It was a large church that was built in th mid 20's. The ventilation system was tied to the heating system as well with an all-original johnson control setup. The steam convectors in the main hall had outside air dampers that were pneumatically operated in conjunction with an exhaust air blower behind the alter and one set of pneumatic t-stats. The convectors even had a second set of internal pneumatic dampers that as far as I can tell worked with a second set of pneumatic t-stats that mixed air flow throught the convectors with either recirculated auditorium air or the fresh air inlet. The ouside air inlets at each convector where closed off in the 50's, but they left everyhting in place and still maintain the johnson control system in perfect order (even though it doesn't do much now). Anyway, I digress but it was quite an impressive system and I'm trying to find out anything I can to fully understand its operation.0 -

don't forget that your local library system may have some of these books;especially if they are tied into a unversity library.
i saw some of these titles on line in the lincoln branch of the university of nebraska which my own omaha public library will obtain for me,for instance.
i realise it's more fun to own your owm copy but at least you can get the information this way--nbc0
