    12 x 24 existing concrete slab Owner wants radiant and tile floor. Should we put insulation down or will the slab be beneficial. Not sure if there is a vaper barrier under slab

    Insulation = Control

    Definitely insulate. If you do not have the height and cannot make it, I would decline to do it.

    For a single layer lay-down, Roth panels have an appeal. Absent that, I would use at least R-5 (R-10 if you can) and not less than R-10 at all perimeter edges. An over-pour of lightweight concrete or panel topping of your choice.

    Whatever you choose, insulation is key. Without it, your heat soak will be downward until the slab is warm, while tepid above. Only once the slab is to a radiant temperature will you get benefit of it.

    If the ground below is wet and you do not have insulation, you will pump BTU's into that slab until Lindsay Lohan actually finishes rehab.

    Great one liner

    or until Britney Spears gets her dignity back. Agreed on the insulation. Keep slab 2" thick or under. I read the other day you can go thinner if you use 3/8 tubing. I always leave the thickness issue up to the concrete expert on the job. He has to warranty against cracks, not me.
