for your children. (I know it's not Politically correct to talk about applying the Board of Education to the seat of their understanding.)Funny thing is, mine very rarely need spanked any more, but people I know who DON'T spank, seems like their kids need one all the time.
Otherwise, Maybe you could make small hula hoops or sculptures or??? BTW-The only reason I can see not to drink from HePex is that the water is hot. :-0

scrap 5/16 HePex
We've got about 1000' of short lengths of 5/16 Wirsbo HePex left over from installs. Anyone used this size for something other than quick track placements? Thanks for any advice.0 -
5/16 pex
I used it as conduit for low voltage door bell circuit in an area that was to be concealed- kinda unnecessary, but inspector wanted ability to replace if necessary. Could be used for thermostat wire in similar circumstances.

Don't drink from wirsbo barrier pex.
Nothing worse then not giving enough pipe to get back to the manifold, but this does tend to make one a bit over cautious and all those over cuts add up. Working with longer coils helps cut down on waste.0 -

If you have a Habitat for Humanity Home Improvement outlet near you they will accept the tails...
We have one here in Denver.

using it as low voltage conduit is a great way to use it.0 -
Because it says not to all over the pipe, I believe that wisrbo uses a different type of barrier than other manufactures. Viega pextron has a thin shiny extra layer on the outside of the pipe that acts as the barrier, there is no such outer-layer with wirsbo he-pluss tubing. It's my assumption that whatever chemical means of O2 blocking Uponor uses, it's is not considered safe for drinking water.
Maybe it just has to do with paying for the approvals, and uponor is saving a buck by not approving the barrier pex. Why would anyone use barrier pex for potable, unless they were recycling some radiant scraps!0 -

My Wirsbo (at the time) dealer called them and they told him that's exactly the case. The He-pex is exactly the same as Aquapex, plus the oxygen barrier, and is perfectly safe for drinking. Uponor pays big bucks to get Aquapex certified safe for potable applications and they aren't going to do that for the pipe intended for heating. Drinking safety, I was told is the same for either. I hope so, I did use left over He-pex for potable AFTER asking about it!0 -
Toxicology
How much could these approvals cost? This would be a one time cost for Uponor, these approvals would be very handy for installers that do both heat and potable. Wouldn't it be worth the expense to give legitimacy to duel purpose usage.
Personally I'm not comfortable with a dealer giving a nod to potable use, What if this is just a rumor, and there is some kind of health issue. Uponor if your he pex is safe for drinking, don't be so cheap, get the stuff approved, It would add value to your product.0 -
drinking from he-pex
We were told in a training class ( by a manufacturers rep) that the pex is manufactured exactly the same, then the O2 barrier is added to the hepex. The printed labeling is then applied. When you look at the pricing, you pay a lot for that barrier, but the scraps still have value.
The same rep said he knew of a case where an inspector made a contractor remove the tubing because of the labeling.
I don't understand why the print " not for potable water" all over it though. He-pex would be sufficient in my mind. Just the same, we don't mix it up

Paul,
Just the fact that you know who Zamphir is, what instrument he plays, and how to spell his name says ALOT about you.

I use it for condensate pump outlet piping. I use a 3/8 pex expander without a ring and expand it to go over the condensate outlet barb. Works great.
To extend the pex instead of using a coupling just expand it using a 3/8 expander again and insert it over the 5/16 piping.0 -
What if the barrier is throughout the pipe, and it's toxic. If it was safe and they just didn't want to pay for the NSF stamp, why all the "not for potable" writing. makes me wonder?0 -
i use it for...
a doorstop/ burglar trap just inside the front door to my home *~/:)0 -
In Uponor's
case the 02 barrier is a coating just on the outside. Can't drag the stuff on the ground too much udderwise you'll scrape it off.
Two factory trips have told me that they don't have the official approvals for certifying it as potable safe, but it is the same pex, just jazzed up w/ the 02 skin.
Not that you'd want to use it for potable..it costs more vs. aquapex.0 -
"Personally I'm not comfortable with a dealer giving a nod to potable use"
For clarification Scott, it was my wholesaler that made the call to Uponor and they "gave the nod". Actually they're the ones that said it's the exact same stuff, just has the barrier, like others have said here.
Another note, I wouldn't use it on a customers potable because of the labeling and lawyers! Like I said early on, in my own house with leftovers.

uponor hepex tubing
I went to a couple of their classes as well. Question came up a few different times throughout the classes. I thought it was because of "OD" issues that the o2 barrier added.
But that was a few years ago, lol..0 -
that my friend...
Is some of your best work. So simple, yet so elegant.
I loved it!!! Kevin0
