I do a lot of multi temp systems. I would love a Mod-con with two or three TT terminals with different set points and outdoor reset curves. I would have to put mix valves on the lower temp zones but that would mean the boiler would not have to run warm enough to work for the highest temp zone all the time. It is always slab on the first floor and staple up on the upper floors that have loser demand but need higher temp to work. watching the boiler run for the 1st floor at 155 or so and get mixed down to 110 is kinda frustrating.

many years ago popular mechanics [or popular science ] had a monthly department called "i'd like to see them make"
don't know exactly who "them" was; however i would like to see someone make a boiler control system [be it thermostat or timed control] using house wiring as a means of connection [like the old radio shack intercoms].this would give you the advantages of wireless without the battery or interference problems.

good idea , now how about this
everybody here talks about cleaning the boiler but it wastes all your hot water so why not put on some filter to get rid of all the bad stuff and not the water.
i just love this site and lern so much about my system which thanks to god soon no more untill next winter.

How about a boiler or furnace with it's own built in CO detecting devise that would shut it down if it passed 30ppm CO or so in any way. I guess that would just be another safety devise for hacks to bypass.

more items on my wish-list:
main vents with a flag to show when they have closed up with steam in them[or a thermometer?]
while they are at it lets make them adjustable for venting capacity so you could just buy the biggest ones and throttle down the ones on shorter lines so that all of them closed at the same time.

pump curve book

I need a pocket size book with all the pumps and there curves.
Taco, Armstrong, B&G, Grundy, you know not ALL the models but maybe the most popular.
I have needed this many times, anyway I end up on the phone with my supply house wasting time while they look it up. And then sometimes it is disputed further, If I had the real data on hand convincing someone they have the wrong pump would be a little more simple.

Building controls

Major manufacturers had systems for large buildings using the building wiring for data aquisition and controls twenty to thirty years ago. Simple radio signal. Electric utility by me uses their transmission lines to read meters and system voltage remotely. Shouldn't be hard to apply for home use.

Not just the curves

but the efficiency curves much as one gets on commercial pumps. Flow and head curves are great, but at least when selecting commercial pumps, we always have the efficiency curves to find the pump closest to that sweet-spot.

Sure, small circulators may seem insignificant, but they add up!

I like to see threaded circulator flanges. eliminate those "dropped nuts" and three-handed replacements/installs. and one less wrench to carry into that crawlspace!

are really trying to make it as service-easy as we can . But for the most part I see systems that are shockingly hard to work on . I do sympathize .

I'd like to see a triple pass oil boiler that has everything in front or on top - supply and return connections , fluepipe and all servicing . I'd also like to see them redesigned to be more narrow in width and depth , but taller in height . Space is always at a premium but we hardly ever have an issue with height .

Hey Al....

Grundfos has made a change to their 26-64 and 26-99 flange...where the nut drops right into a fitted boss, in the flange.

It's nice to only carry the 5/8ths wrench to tighten the bolt as opposed to carrying 2 wrenches to hold and tighten each.

I hope it falls down to the smaller pumps too! Chris

Tall and thin would be very nice for you guys....but I can deal with 3 pass and most of the placements that are available right now.

NOW, if the folks that needed them knew it....that would be my wish.

Just down load the curves, amd walla there you go. It'll do so much more than just that, HOW CAN YOU GET ALONG WITHOUT ONE IN THIS DAY AND AGE? your competior uses them on every truck. It'll keep track of all you enter in it. You could even have it keep track of milage, time, location, inventory, and the shortest way home! It could auto call your wife and say your on your way home!

I'd like to see geothermal heat pumps (or air source for that matter) with inverter compressor technology. It would work like a modulating boiler. No buffer tank needed. Oem's are you listening?

How aboout a 'destroy bot' program that could be sent to the originater of a spy bot like we have been seeing here that would follow whatever path necessary or follow all links the bots post and destroy all of their computers or burn down their homes? Maybe an internet securities division of the fed gov that consists of two geeky looking guys who love to track down spammers and post their info on a main website...You know there are enough ticked-off people with the $$$ to fly wherever needed to get revenge...

The B & G company " they can make it but won't listen or do it" How about making the stem on those flo control unit aliitle longer so we can put our wrench to loosen or tighten when needed, instead of trying to take the snap ring " jesus clip" and handle to get to nut with wrench. I've told many of the B&S reps.. They just nods and proven themsleves not getting the results for us.

aerator suggestion

judging by the amount of time i spend unplugging or replacing aerators in our old 1886 house no one here will ever suffer from osteoprosis or anaemic iron defficiency,so i would like to see them make one sise fits- all aerators which are reversable so you could blow them out by installing them backwards ,much like paint sprayer nozzles[do oil burner nozzles have this as well?]--nbc

i would like a layer on google maps showing the Infra-Red layer so you could see how much heat was going out your roof [and your neighbors for that matter].
if you have tried "street view " on google maps that would also benefit everyone with an IR layer.
then "keeping up with the jones" could be a matter of whose IR signiature was most dark [or green]!
maybe this would have to be an added cost item for google or maybe adverts from various "Greening" companies would support it.-nbc
