Double drop header

applies to the actual height of the risers from the boiler above the maximum waterline height. I've seen jobs where the actual header was less than 24-inches after it dropped from at least 24-inches, and they worked fine. This is one big reason for using a drop header- to be able to use taller risers. If you're using a 30-inch riser height you have more than enough.
I'd keep the 18-inch laterals, Burnham likes them for some reason.

Is there any benefit to doing a double drop header? 2 megasteamers piped into a common header. Wheres the best place to drop, at the boiler headers, or at the common header. I could drop at the boiler header and at the common header if it would be worth while.

Since the MegaSteam
requires two risers to the boiler header, using a drop header at this point allows for easier expansion and contraction, and is much easier to put together. This is because the drop header adds another swing joint.
Dropping into the common header from the boilers also introduces another swing joint. I'd use a drop header here too, for the same reasons.
And I'd love to see the install pics!

Questions
If I install 30 inch risers off the boiler, do the boiler headers and common header still need to be 24 inches above the water line and will I still need 18 inch laterals off the risers to the drop header.

Thanks Steamhead. I will probably be taking progress pics as I go and asking a few more questions but it wont be until late summer.
