is there anyway to test smoke detectors by blowing a smoke like product into them?

When I was an alarm installer years back we had cans of aerosol smoke to test the smokies, but I do not remember where we got it. It does exist, though...

I Test mine
by using a candle, and snuffing the flame and holding it close to the detector so that the smoke from the wick enters. Takes about 15 seconds,0 -
