OT - need help on DVI Graphics Card

I just received my Dell 3007 30" Monitor which stipulates that it requires a Dual Link DVI-D graphics card.
Went to PC store and was advised that they only have DVI-I dual link cards. there are no DVI-D dual link cards.
Did a search online for "dual link DVI-D graphics card" and plenty of cards come up.. but when I look at the actual specs on these cards, they all say DVI-I dual link..
I'm lost. does a dual liunk DVi-I card work with a monitor that needs DVI-D support??
not much help fropm Computer people, so I'm pleading for help with the best heating guys around..
any ideas??

hmmm...
see if this helps:

Looks like you need a DVI-DL (DVI digital only, dual link) or a DVI-I dual link vs. a plain DVI-I (integrated analog/digital). The integrated also includes analog for older VGA type monitors -- long as it's Dual Link and Integrated (I) or Digital (D) it *appears* you'd be alright.
"The connector also includes provision for a second data link for high resolution displays, though many devices do not implement this. In those that do, the connector is sometimes referred to as DVI-DL (dual link)."
"The long flat pin on a DVI-I connector is wider than the same pin on a DVI-D connector, so it is not possible to connect a male DVI-I to a female DVI-D by removing the 4 analog pins. It is possible, however, to connect a male DVI-D cable to a female DVI-I connector. Many flat panel LCD monitors have only the DVI-D connection so that a DVI-D male to DVI-D male cable will suffice when connecting the monitor to a computer's DVI-I female connector."
It appears you should be able to plug your DVI-D cable into a DVI-I graphics card -- I'm not sure what limitations (max resolution??) arise from the missing dual link.
Are you using a Dell computer w/ the Dell monitor? If so (and even if not) they should have an appropriate DCI-DL card you could buy, but you might do better from another on line vendor too.0 -
thanks
thank you for your help.
I now understand that the DVi-i is both analog & digital and the Dvi-d is digital only. I'm amazed that the PC tech couldn't tell me this yesterday.
so I'm off to buy a dual-link Dvi-i card (after the service calls are taken care of of course!)
Thanks again to you & the WALL !!
enjoy your day & cheers!
Terry
