I need a non Condensing boiler for snowmelt, I think

How about running the snowmelt supply line next to the condensate line and insulating them together in some thick Armaflex?

For that type of application, I like the design of the IBC VFC 15-150 because the flue gas exits the bottom of the boiler, which means there is no condensate trap or piping to freeze inside the boiler. You could trap it inside the heated space.

I need a non Condensing boiler for snowmelt,

I have a snowmelt job that requires 100K btu. I wanted a compact wall mounted boiler that is non condensing because it is mounted in an unheated attic. Does that make sense?
    Thanks,

    Snowmelt

OK I'll bite. NO! In my opinion- condensing and snowmelt are a marriage made in heaven. I generally use a ss condensing boiler with a high end temp. of 130deg. In reality they rarely get to the high end. Snowmelt jobs condense at a rapid rate. That is the only issue you will have to protect against frozen condensate. The boilers that I have used have a freeze protection in the boiler so they will fire to keep them above freeze temps. Obviously the system is filled with glycol and doesn't have a water feed. Or depending on what your energy costs are Electric snowmelt is a less expensive option with no boiler concern or maintenance. With fossil fuels rising at such a fast pace I have found elec. to be very viable. Good luck.

    I understand the condensing part...

but I would still have problems with the condensate draining out even if the boiler is firing. I was thinking along the lines of a Baxi, although service/parts are almost impossible here. The other I looked at was the Noritz 1501 ASME boiler although it is priced in the lower end of the condensing boiler range.

I saw a Knight installed in an unheated area used for ice melt in the Saranac Lake area. The installer used Heat Trace and wrapped it. The electricity used to keep it warm in a year is minimal.

I can't see losing the benefit of a condensing boiler on ice melt.
