Anyone catch this episode last night?

I didn't get to see the whole episode from last night, but it was quite a mess. The highest temperature in the house was 14.7 C.

    Discovery or TLC

We get him here I just forget which channel. I believe the show that you saw the insulation was the issue.

  • I think it's on Discover Home channel where I'm at. Holmes has got a good thing going. By the time he gets to the homeowner, they're so frustrated that they want the job done right. I have not seen an episode yet where the customer asks about cost.

    Holmes

I like the show also, but I'm surprised no backlash against Homes for his dislike of wet heat! Or did you Guys miss the episodes where they ripped out hydronic systems for in Mike's words,"a upgrade to modern warm air"
  • Seen it many times,

and I agree there is much shoddy work out there, but the other side is seldom(if ever) shown. Unlicensed contractors are rampant, but not much is said why the homeowner gave this guy the job in the first place,, could it be price? Then when things go wrong Holmes is called-in, and deficiencies are corrected (only his way), and likely paid-for by the sponsors of the show.
Personally I find the Canadian show "Real Renos" to be a much more realistic approach for homeowners and contractors.

    My .02 cents.

Ripped out a steam system one time

I watch the show pretty regularly & saw him rip out a steam system one time & replace it with a York furnace. I was pretty ticked!

    Cost

They don't ask about cost, because they don't pay the cost of the repairs or ripouts and redos......that's paid for by the sponsors.

    I love that show.

    Stopped watching it..

Stopped watching it after he explained how using screws in joist hangers was so much better than nails.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in that I'm sure he knows the shear strength of the screws he used.

Doesn't say much for the homeowner that buys some ceramic deck screws..

Granted he knows a lot about a great many things.. what's the saying.. jack of all trades, master of none?

At least Norm sticks to carpentry and throws the plumbing over to Rich.
