    System 2000 EK-1 Frontier

On a System 2000 EK-1 Frontier is there any operational reason, other than space constraints, to use a standard 40 gallon tank versus the 40 gallon Lo-Boy tank? Is the outside combustion air kit preferred?

    Do you mean

using a regular storage tank ( converted electric water heater ) , instead of the System 2000 storage tank ?

I was asking that question on our last EK install .

The outside air kit is the way to go . No need to draw in preheated room air for combustion and it does cut down on noise . But even without the air kit , this is one quiet boiler .

    Do

you mean using the lo-boy tank in a side by side application? It's a much larger diameter than the standard tank,so it ends up using more space but it's functionally the same.I would use outside air in almost every case for the reasons Ron mentioned as well as avoiding lint/animal hair problems.

the dip tube on the EK tank is cut short to allow the boiler to purge to the domestic tank.I've used an existing aquabooster with an EK-1.I pulled the tube and cut it,working fine.

    lo boy

The lo boy tank is designed to go under the system 2000
So you must use the Stackable stand
Both of these together costs a little more than the standard tank and standard base.
I have used these many times in closets and what a space saver!
Keep in mind that it raises the height of the boiler so the flue outlet is also higher, may need to adjust for that.

    Storage Tank

Ron Jr, I was talking about using the standard System 2000 40 gallon tank as opposed to the System 2000 Lo-Boy 40 gallon tank.

My experience is you get slightly higher output on the regular tank than the lowboy, if comparing both EK tanks.
