if it is a true steamer...no connections accross the top , no. The downside is possible leaks under higher pressure and junk entering the system.

Can I use a steam radiator on a hot water system and if so is there any negatives?

if there are hydraulic connections at the tops of the sections as well as the bottom, it will work. Post a pic if you're not sure.
