Let me know when they're sweating a new gas line in for the next appliance!? That's crazy!?

I like the gate valve myself. I have seen a entire home with copper gas lines-soft soldered-natural gas-rigth from the gas service meter. Seems once upon a time some people practiced plumbing gas this way. Only ran into this when the old dead peoples had the money to have it installed this way. Most have used compression fittings (still have them at my desk)Customer asks "why they need to replace, they were ok for 25 yrs". When I get a chance to get some pics I will put'em here. You'll like them. "K"

    Give Up

I give up! I was hoping you knew!

Maybe the forerunner to the water injection thing J. C. Whitney sold for 1970 hot rods?

Sweated copper was legal for a time in most Long Island towns. Are we sure this is gas? That mung growing out of the gate valve stem looks like it's coming from a water valve.

The item in question is the grey thing with the large nut on top. The bottom port is connected to a water pipe for a water heater. The horizontal connections are the gas part. The gas enters on the right and exists on the left going directly to the water heater.

Its a first for me. Anyone?
  • Never saw anything like that before,

but I`ll make a "guess",,, could that be some kind of gas supply cut-off if the system water level(pressure), drops too low???

    May be It, Dave

Looks like it may be configured that way, Dave. With the X-Ray Glasses I bought when I was a kid, I can see a plunger under that cap that falls on pressure loss and shuts the gas.
