Chicago and Detroit steam (Dan H.)

I knew some heating professionals in Chicago and Detroit who understand steam heating. I could be sending so many people your way. It's frustrating to get all these emails from people with steam-heated buildings in those areas. They ask me for contractor recommendations and I have nothing to give them.

    I wish

you would get listed in Find a Pro so that you'd be seen. Type in your Zip and see what happens.

Chicago zips usually get sent to me

I am the closest listed contractor.....about 2 hours away. I get inquiries fairly regularly from Chicago...As a Matter of fact all of my FAP inquiries come out of Chicago.....haven't had a hit yet from my area, but some visit there after they read my Yellow Pages ad or I refer them directly.

    I know.

Many write to me and are concerned that you're too far away for them. You should move. :-)

    Dan

I'll send your message to a pro who I knew very well here in the Detroit area. He really needs to get listed!

    Thanks.

Tell him to enter his Zip code and see how much he could control. I'd love to send all these people to a good steam guy.

    Chicago Steam

I figure I'd better weigh in here since I've been a regular for quite a few years. I'm a small shop specializing in high end new construction and major remodel jobs. I do a couple steamers a year but basically my work is radiant systems for a handful of GC's who I have long relationships with. With some I do conventional forced air and high velocity cooling. With others I'm just the boiler/radiant/controls contractor.

Dan, back when you had the free "Find A Pro" listing I was awfully tempted to join in. Even with the really low fee the hits that I know would keep on coming would make it a most cost effective marketing tool available.

The fact is I have all the work I need or want right now (as I count my blessings) and since I'm a one man office I really don't want the added input. All of my jobs are referenced or word of mouth. I kind of like it that way. A couple years ago Boilerpro did a steam job right in my backyard because I was too busy to tackle it.

That's not to say I won't hang my shingle on "Find a Pro" even in the near future. I've entered my zip many times over the years and am amazed at the dearth of Chicago metro area hits on "Find a Pro". I'll contact Dave in Amboy, he's a stronger steam man than me, and maybe together we can help some of these folks out. I know he doesn't mind taking his steam show on the road. Forward the e-mails and maybe we'll see what we can do.

It's a shame we can't get more bona fide steam men in the area to respond from your great site, Dan. I've learned more here than from dozens of seminars.
