Can anyone tell me what aquastat, where and how to place it on an 80 gal electric water heater conversion. The only side tapings are for the T&P valve and the drain and they are on opposite sides. Thanks, Tom

    Aquastat

Conversion? To what? Can't put tprv on hot outlet, & use top side tapping for aquastat? Or aquastat on hot outlet?

    Electric heater ?

You can use the lower surface mounted aquastat in the heater to control the temperature .

    Conversion

Sorry if I wasn't clear , I'm converting an electric water heater to use with my wood boiler. I'm planning on using it electrically in the summer. I guess I could place the T&P valve on the hot outlet I just wasn't sure that would be ok with the heat trap. I probably don't even need the heat trap as I was going to run the temp to 140f and mix down to 120 or so. Thermo mixing valve has it'o own check valve.

    Thanks for the feed back

    Tees

I plumb my sidearms into tees spun into brass nipples in the T/P relief valve tapping and drain connectors. The T/P valve and drain go back into the tees, along with the sidearm connections.

Attached is a rough sketch of the setup. I turn off the breaker for the water heater at the beginning of the heating season. You don't want to try to heat your house with an electric water heater if you can help it.
