I posted this restaurant list a while back...lots of good eats here in Denver.
Also, if it is sunny...which is nearly all of the time...one of the best views of the mountains in Denver is to the west from Sloan's Lake park. The park has a nice path all around it and some picnic areas. The park is about 2 miles west of I-25 by taking the West 23rd Avenue exit west and following W. 23rd until it dead ends.
If you go, Sloan's Restaurant on my list is on W.25th just west of the park. A few other places not on my list at the west end of the park are US Thai, Edgewater Pizza, and Sisters Pizza and Mussels (which has a view of the lake). Of these I have only tried Edgewater Pizza, but all are well reviewed.
If you go to REI downtown you can access via the W. 23rd exit also...just head east and it goes by the Aquarium and curves around to REI. From REI, The Tattered Cover Bookstore is close by (huge, multiple floors). Also, My Brothers Bar (patio seating is best) shares a parking lot with REI. Within walking distance are Wazee Supper Club, Wyncoop Brewery, McCormicks Fish House, and El Chapultepec.
Can you tell I like to eat? I aways pair an activity with food. Have fun!

With Wetsock looming
my wife and I were looking at things to do in and around Denver. We've never been out West. We are arriving early Fri. and leaving Monday night. Giving us 3 days around Wetstock to take in everything. Ack! We were reading about Rocky Mountain Park but a lot of it is closed until May. Any recommendations on things to see or do would be nice. Thanks in advance.

The REI store
downtown is cool. Rent bikes and ride the old railway route until you saddle sore
I want to check out the near by "green" Walmart. It has wind, solar and radiant heat. I'd like to see the mechanical room.
Denver has a lot going on, depends on your interests. I like to drive up I-70 a bit, hike or snowshoe for some Rocky Mountain high.
Visit ME class room and lab at Red Rocks, and launch some potatoes as you head up the mountain.

With so many people coming in on Fri, lets see if we can get a group together that evening. Have dinner or drinks or what ever.

when in the big D
When I have people into Denver on limited time and they are not into driving all over I take them to the Buckhorn Exchange. Very old restaurant with the #1 liquor license in Colorado. The light rail stops in front of place and can take you into downtown without the hassle of parking just leave car there. Your about 5 minutes from downtown.
The Buckhorn has animal mounts all through the place (even a jackalope) so bring camera. Great bar upstairs. Menu has everything plus lots of game that you don't see everywhere.
Another great place to explore is Golden west of town. Golden used to be the capital of colorado the switched to Denver. Coors brewery is located there along with many bars and restaurants with that old-west feel. Very nice little town. They fixed the river up for Kayakers and can watch most any afternoon.

one more
If you get to Golden or heading west of town stop off a the Red Rocks Amphitheater. VERY cool natural amphitheater with awesome views of the natural red rocks. Lots of concerts here in summer. They have also just finished renovation of new center at top.

I for one...
am REALLY looking forward to seeing some of my old Wallie friends, and also look forward to meeting some NEW Wallie friends. I will be making an announcement that will shock most participants on the wall :-) Then again, maybe it won't!
In any case, there are a LOT of things to do in Denver, with or without the benefit of a rental car. The RTD (our local transportation gig) has a track that runs right near the hotel. It can take you as far as downtown, to the 16th street mall, or as far south as one of the coolest shopping experiences you will ever have. It's more of a lodge setting than a mall experience.
I would suspect that the bar at the hotel will be LOADED with Wallies come Friday night.
Will see you all then.

weather
forecast for Fri, Sat, and Sun don't look too bad for Denver area by my weatherbug. How do you guys in Denver think it is going to be? Looking forward to it any way it is. Ruthe0 -
We have a saying here in Colorado regarding weather predictions,
I'm certain they have the same saying in YOUR state as well...
If you don't like the weather. stick around for an hour, and it will change...
My dad used to say, "Son, there are only two people who try and predict weather in Colorado.. Newcomers and paid professional fools (weathermen)"
Springtime in the Rockies can be beautiful. My recommendation would be to dress in light layers. That way you can add or subtract as needed.
Look forward to seeing you Ruthe.

You are right
They talk about New England with the same saying. See you on the weekend Ruthe0 -
How about an impromptu Big Ugly....

Say 7:30 till ?? That way everyone will have a chance to grab grub and prepare to be UGLY?
What thinks ye all wallies?

Looking forward to it.
Even though we are driving in from Nebraska, I am not going to let Matt make me wait in the truck.

That
goes without saying. Getting mile-high ugly!Retired and loving it.0 -
Ok, Mark. I was just going to suggest something myself.
For those how are looking the resturants, here is where to look. The hotel is on the corner of I 225 and Parker Rd. If you go north on I 225 to the next exit, Iliff Ave, continue north on the frontage road there are several places. If you go north on Parker Rd a mile so, turn left on Havana St. you will find Sam's #3. Great place. Love their kickin' green chili. I live just blocks from these places so please, anyone who needs directions or help with places to go, just call me at 303 475 6210.
