Mismatched radiator and valve - photo included

Radiator coupling leaked, for a long time. Floor structure rotted and totally replaced. Now the radiator is too high for the valve coupling by at least 3/4 inch. The valve is at the max height. See photo.

Do I counterbore the floor for the front legs, to nearly the thickness of the oak boards?

Is there a short 1 1/2 inch female / male coupling to raise the valve?

Buy a new radiator that has a shorter coupling height off the floor?

That 11 section radiator is a beast to move for this deskjockey grandpa.

Allthough I have never looked at the x-section of a rad section, I would think you could die gring (cut) the legs off enough for that difference, or counter sink the floor. Not much option here. Were the new boards thicker than the orig floor?

    rework connection

install new valve , remove 45 * & roll connection in with set of TWO new 45* s . new offset will provide correct elevation & setback.

    Mismatched height

The supply pipe is up-limited by the floor joists the were notched during installation, in 1927. The pipe is leaning off the vertical. There is no access into the crawl space below. (It was open when I replaced the local area of very rotted sub floor.)

    This might work.............

if the radiator and pipe use to fit try this, put a pipe wrench on the pipe, now put a small piece or two of wood under it , now take a 2x4, 2x3 about 2' long and wedge it between the wood and wrench, put some pressure on the long piece of wood, (now your lever) with your foot and the pipe should move up for connection of union.

Get an extension coupling. They are widely available at a supply house. While your at it replace the valve and spud completely.Easy one!
