Electric Tankless DHW

With the units by Microtherm. Very good and reliable. Support is good. Indefinite hot water.
Limitations being large flows into a tub will take longer. But two showers together with the RA-28 not a problem.
Solar pre-heat a good idea.
Electric tankless vs.electric tank should see a savings 30%-40%. Depending on your use.
They should be drained every once in a while should lime build up from well water start form around the elements. I recommend a "Scale Stopper" filter before in side. They take standard electric elements also.

Summer DHW options
Do any of you have any experience with these Stiebel Eltron Electric Tankless Water heaters or similar products?
http://www.e-tankless.com/products.php
I use a wood boiler to heat my DHW in the winter and I am looking for a good summer time option. We are on a well and our household consists of 2 adults and 3 kids. No hot tub or swimming pools planned.
Is elec on-demand DHW a better alternative to our current 40 gallon electric tank?
I would keep my existing tank in line to serve as a pre-heater and maybe add another tank to incorporate solar in the future.
Any insight appreciated.0 -
Do you have the power?
to run one?
My electric provider charges to upgrade the entry cable and meter set, plus a monthly availability fee, and a $5.80 KWH demand fee for all electric tankless installations. check with your provider first, and you breaker box capacity.

Good Point HR.
The RA-28 min requirement is 150 amps at main coming in.
And need 4- 30 amp double poles breakers to the four elements.
With it's patented "power sharing" technology, no notice of flickering lights.

we sell eemax go to www.eemaxinc.com check out their whole house electric tankless water heaters. you could also go with a 50 - 80 - 119 gallon solar water heater tank from heat transfer products go to www.htproducts.com with a coil in the bottom of the tank fo solar and a electric water heater element and put the solar panels up on the roof now. heat transfer products also has a solar tank that you would use the botton coil for solar all year and you could use the top coil from your boiler in the winter time to back up what there is not enough sun. if you use this two coil solar tank you still would need the electric water heater as back up in the summer when the boiler is not running. I beleve the US government still has a $2000.00 federal tax credit for solar also check with your state for solar tax credits. you could also look at using a NORITZ tankless gas water heater using propane. these noritz units work great and just like electric tankless water heaters they both only use energy when you need hot water. I would also look at putting 1.6GPM alson shower heads or American Standard 1.5GPM shower heads in your showers. if you have room you could also install a well mate ut80 or ut120 gallon fiberglass holding tank to raise the water temp before going into you water heater no matter if you go tankless electric on gas or if you go strait solar with electric back up.0 -
Electric DHW costs
Yep! Right on the money Hot Rod! I checked with my electric provider and they do have an additional charge for high load users. I would need a new meter and I would be paying a premium price for all electric use 7am - 7pm not just the on-demand electric HW. The two customers that the utility guy knew of that had them are not happy with the additional costs.
Thank you all for the info.
