We have over 200 installed now. Initially I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread but we are not having about a 5% failure rate. It hurts!!

I worked on some a couple years ago when they were new. I do not like them very much since we had a bad batch of them(About 25 bad ones)....I think they corrected the Problems since..

Maybe your 28V is "Spiking" to higher Voltage? and Causing Problems? Check/Monitor you incoming Voltage!or install a surge protector.

Apparently, the voltage is too high causing havoc with the valve actuator electronic board. The valve is designed to operate at approximately 24 volts, and 28 volts is much higher then normal. Perhaps you’re located close to the electric company step-down transformer located on the telephone pole? Anyway, Taco has engineered a more robust actuator to work under extreme conditions. Please call me direct if you have any questions or concerns.

Back in 02, they had a list of power stealing stats that could give intermittent problems. Enough trickle voltage would falsely energize the head and it would not open when a real call for heat came. Solution then was to install a resistor across R & W of those stats, and I believe it came with the ESP valves. Some Honeywell stats also required a second resistor as well. Same issue has been showing up just recently with some of their zoning circ's and certian stats as well, like the T87N.
