My first
Cast iron boiler install is coming up in a week. I have repaired many but until now everything has been mod/con or copper tube. To be honest I have not seen any new cast irons in my little area of the world. We really don't have many residential hydronic systems in Northern California. For what ever reason none of the contractors I have worked for have use anything but the Laars mini therm. So Piping is my quandary. I have become religious about primary secondary pumping but the Viessmann manual shows a single pump with a mix valve before the boiler. This would cause some bypass around the boiler. Now with what I am used to working with that makes my hair stand up. with one zone open and a bypass before the boiler that seems like it could cause kettling. So how are you guys doing it. This is a theme now for me. Their are no real wet heads around here to talk to about this kind of thing. Just plumbers installing boilers. With the exception of commercial systems I have learned everything from Dans books and here at the Wall. Well here I am again.
Its a Vitogas 100 with four zones of base board.0 -

Its a replacement the emitters are copper base board. SO it sounds like your saying the vitogas 100 controlls that valve.0
