home runs and recirc line

If you have a DHW set up with pex home runs, where would you tie in a recirc line? I was thinking I would have to run a seperate recirc from each home run, or tee them all in together at the furthest point. I have not run into it yet since I just started using pex on domestic water in the past year. Also if they are all tied in together doesn't that defeat the purpose of home runs with seperate valves on each?

    One doesn't...

... do recirc on a home run or manifold system. Manifold is a good system if you can keep the runs from getting too long and if you can use small pipe, preferably 3/8". That keeps the volume of water in the pipes small, meaning you get quick hot water. The manufacturers have sizing guides.

The approach for bigger homes is to use a big loop, say a one inch that is controlled by a demand pump. Run the line close by all end uses. Put a mini manifold at each location and tie small diameter tube to it. That way when one wants hot water, the pump is activated to prime the main loop and in using water all you waste is what's in the small line from the mini manifold.

    You can use

a demand type re-circ kit. It has a TEE that installs in a vanity ties into both hot and cold, then add a pump with timer on tank. Grundfos makes one. Uponor has a system also, believe motion detector activated.

I had a heating contractor that built his new house using a pex manifold system with home runs to all fixtuers. he installed the grundfos comfort pump on the indirect water heater and installed 4 comfort valves in different bathrooms and he told me it did not work.

    Singh...

Maybe I read Dan Cs question wrong, but it seems you could do recirc on only one line of a manifold system with a demand control and pump. I thought he wanted fast hot water at all taps. The demand control/pump is perfect for the distributed manifold system I mentioned earlier. If you Google "Gary Klein Hot Water" some really interesting articles he wrote about distribution systems should appear ;~)

that's exactly what I was asking. If it is possible to do that with a home run system.
